5 Common Car Insurance Endorsements

Insurance Blog

Car insurance endorsements are additional coverages that you add to your base policy. These are modifications that personalize your auto insurance coverage to fit your specific needs and fill in gaps in your base policy.

Modified Car Coverage

If you take your vehicle and modify it outside of normal repairs, you will likely need to purchase modified car coverage. For example, if you add an expensive stereo to your vehicle or add performance updates to it, you will want to get this coverage. If your car is damaged, most of your modifications will not be covered for repairs or considered for the vehicle's value without a modified car coverage endorsement.

Classic Car

If you have a classic car, in addition to carrying the regularly required insurance, you are going to want to carry a classic car endorsement. Just like with a modified car, you probably put a lot of money into the vehicle far above its actual cash value that you would want to be compensated for should the car be damaged or totaled. If you want to be fully compensated for damage to the vehicle, you need a classic car endorsement.

Roadside Assistance

If you don't get roadside assistance through other means, such as through your credit card, you will probably want to add roadside assistance to your auto insurance policy. Roadside assistance usually only costs a few dollars a month and can come in handy if you find yourself with a flat tire on a rainy day, locked out of your vehicle at night, or needing a jumpstart after draining your car battery. Those few dollars a month can prevent those types of incidents from being something that drains hundreds of dollars from your pocket.

Rental Car Coverage

If your vehicle is damaged or totaled in an accident, you will probably need another car to drive around. With rental car coverage, your insurance will pay for your rental vehicle while your vehicle is getting repaired or while you shop for a new car if yours is totaled. With the increase in daily rental car prices, this type of coverage can save your pocketbook if you need a rental car when your primary vehicle is damaged.

Endorsements are ways to customize your car insurance coverage to better fit your needs. Talk to your insurance agent about your unique needs, and ensure you have the proper endorsements to meet your auto coverage needs. Talk to a local auto insurance company to learn more.
